Even amid trauma, heartbreak, and uncertainty – the seemingly sunless places – you can still find joy.

Even Still stems from my belief that we can authentically tend to our pain without discarding hope.

I invite you to co-labor with me in therapy. My authenticity, empathy, and unconditional acceptance create space for your vulnerability and healing.

“Survival isn’t some theory operating in a vacuum. It’s a matter of my everyday living and making decisions. How do I hold faith with sun in a sunless place?”

– Audre Lorde, 1988, p. 53

Offerings

Clinical Services

I provide culturally informed, evidence-based virtual therapy. This means I encourage you to bring your whole self as we explore how aspects of your identity (e.g., race, gender, faith) shape your experiences, using proven therapeutic techniques.

Consulting Services

I offer workshops on addressing -isms (e.g., racism, sexism), cultural identity assessment, and developing a virtual private practice, bringing expertise in mental health and inclusive practices to organizations and institutions.

At Even Still, I believe that even in life's darkest moments, there is still space for healing, growth, and joy.

Dr. Sosoo

I’m Dr. Effua Sosoo: a clinical psychologist, speaker, and the founder of Even Still, a private practice where I offer culturally informed and evidence-based therapy and consultation services.

  • “Dr. Effua Sosoo has been a well-received and highly requested expert lecturer for the Psychology Fellows in the Yale Doctoral Internship in Clinical and Community Psychology. And for good reason. I sought out Dr. Sosoo’s expertise after reading her scholarly work discussing key considerations to support advanced graduate professionals who encounter unexpected challenges during their training. Her work came to the program during a critically important time and our trainees benefitted deeply from her insights and expertise. We have been fortunate to sponsor an invited lecture through the Getting Racism Out of our Work (GROW) Initiative at Yale for several years, as Dr. Sosoo’s expertise expands far beyond the topic for which we first secured her! I know the department will look forward to an ongoing collaboration with Dr. Sosoo in the years ahead!”

Amber W. Childs, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Director of Training, Yale School of Medicine Doctoral Internship in Clinical and Community Psychology

  • "I have repeatedly asked Effua to be a part of a mental health career panel because she is an exceptional panelist. She clearly and succinctly talks about her experiences, considering the perspectives and knowledge level of her audience with her responses. Moreover, she effortlessly engages her audience with her insights and humor. Effua also responds to audience questions with helpful insights based on her experiences and expertise, and easily builds a connection with audience members through her authentic, joyful, and empathetic approach. I will definitely invite Effua back to speak to our students and department."

Catherine B. Stroud, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology, Williams College

  • “Dr. Sosoo's commitment to the self-care of graduate students, especially those with marginalized identities, has clearly demonstrated her level of expertise in this area as well as her willingness to be vulnerable during our trainings with her.”

Heidi Putney, Ph.D., Co-Assistant Director of University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School/Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital Clinical Psychology Internship, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, UMass Chan

  • "I greatly appreciated Dr. Sosoo's insightful talk on cultural identity assessment. The presentation offered valuable information to enhance my clinical skills and provided practical resources to support my supervision of licensed practitioners and students in training. Dr. Sosoo recommended versatile and actionable approaches applicable across various settings. Her thoughtful and compassionate delivery skillfully alleviated participants' anxieties as we engaged in discussions on complex and challenging topics. I highly recommend her as a speaker and look forward to attending her future presentations."
