Consulting Services

With a signature workshop on addressing -isms (i.e., racism, sexism) in real time and interactive workshops on cultural identity assessment and developing a virtual private practice, I offer a range of professional services, bringing expertise in mental health and inclusive practices to organizations and institutions.

Speaking Topics

    • Audience: Health care trainees and providers, corporate, general

    • Description: Have you ever encountered an -ism (i.e., racism, sexism, ableism) in a clinical or professional setting that made you feel stuck? Your body starts sending stress signals and common reactions are to fight, flee, or freeze. This interactive workshop explores barriers to addressing -isms in real time, discusses our ethical responsibility to do so, and provides specific strategies that will empower you to respond in an effective, values-consistent manner.

    • Audience: Health care trainees and providers

    • Description: Many of us deeply care about justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion but struggle to get the conversation started in an authentic and confident manner. This presentation offers tools that will enable you to assess and explore cultural identity with individual therapy clients, outpatient groups, and trainees.

    • Audience: Psychology trainees and providers

    • Description: Many psychologists yearn for greater work-life balance, flexibility, and additional income. However, there are many myths that discourage them from even exploring this path (e.g., “I will have to bill insurance myself or hire a secretary”). I debunk these myths, simplify the process of developing a virtual private practice, and offer practical steps to shift you from dreaming to doing

    • Audience: Health care trainees and providers

    • Description: As health care professionals, we work within a culture of one-way caring that can quickly give way to burnout. This workshop addresses the importance of self-care, guides participants in identifying barriers to self-care, and introduces skills to cultivate and sustain a self-care regimen.

  • “Dr. Effua Sosoo has been a well-received and highly requested expert lecturer for the Psychology Fellows in the Yale Doctoral Internship in Clinical and Community Psychology. And for good reason. I sought out Dr. Sosoo’s expertise after reading her scholarly work discussing key considerations to support advanced graduate professionals who encounter unexpected challenges during their training. Her work came to the program during a critically important time and our trainees benefitted deeply from her insights and expertise. We have been fortunate to sponsor an invited lecture through the Getting Racism Out of our Work (GROW) Initiative at Yale for several years, as Dr. Sosoo’s expertise expands far beyond the topic for which we first secured her! I know the department will look forward to an ongoing collaboration with Dr. Sosoo in the years ahead!”
